Prodigy Finance is a platform that enables financing for international postgraduate students at the world’s best universities, whilst delivering competitive financial and social returns to alumni, institutional and private investors.

This borderless and innovative model enables education loan financing to students from across the globe, whilst using predicted post-degree affordability rather than present-day salary. Since 2007, Prodigy Finance has extended over US$500 million through the platform to fund over 12,000 students from over 150 countries.

Our team of over 160 (and growing) is already truly global. Our head office is in London with much of the team being based in beautiful Cape Town. We also have an office in New York plus team members based across Europe and Asia.

We are funded by some of the best, pre-eminent institutions in the world including Index Ventures, Balderton Capital, AlphaCode, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.

Our team is very international and very sociable; you will interact with the broader business on a regular basis. The position will be based in Cape Town, London or New York.

What you will do in the role

As our Head of Marketing, you will be responsible for all marketing and communications activities across the business in this next growth phase of the business. Reporting to our Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, you will manage our global Marketing team and oversee our go-to-market brand strategy.

Responsibilities will include:

Develop and execute a global marketing strategy across online and offline channels that supports our purpose and strategic objectives

Develop a brand framework and messaging strategy; drive it to execution with measurable impact across multiple markets

Benchmark marketing activities and performance to continuously improve brand performance

Identify growth and optimisation opportunities and develop a roadmap for continual improvement

Oversee all customer marketing channels to ensure customer acquisition and retention

Work closely with our Business Development (BD) team to drive customer growth and awareness, identifying opportunities to reach new market segments

Manage, develop and scale our global Marketing team located across multiple geographies, by providing exceptional leadership and guidance, setting goals and defining OKRs and KPIs to track team success

Develop and deliver a robust PR strategy, along with US and UK PR agencies, across multiple customer segments in key geographies

Work with the Product team to support new product launches and go-to-market strategies

Develop/identify marketing related tools and processes to support customer and business requirements

Manage the marketing budget linked to key deliverables by working with leadership to determine forecasting and budget allocations

What you need to be great at

Commercial acumen with customer focus, with the ability to derive customer behavioural insight from multiple sources

High EQ; can read people, excellent listening skills, patience, motivation to understand the needs and wants of others, concerned with helping others to achieve their goals

Strong leadership, collaboration, project management, and problem-solving skills

The ability to interpret and draw conclusions from data, turning analytic insights into business actions

Start-up DNA; resilient, gets things done, 80/20, carpe diem, adaptable to change, huge capacity for hard work in a relentlessly fast paced environment

Test and learn mindset with ability to make decisions with limited information

Bias to action; create ideas, think outside the box, solve problems and find solutions, be proactive, use initiative to develop and improve

Global citizen; interested in working with multiple cultures, thirst for learning about philosophies, social behaviours and education systems of other nationalities and countries

Proven experience of successfully managing and building collaborative relationships with customers and partners

Hands on experience using tools to improve user optimisation and conversion

Who we are looking for; track record must haves

Master’s degree qualification (MBA or relevant); or bachelor’s degree and 10+ years relevant experience

Proven experience in developing growth of a global recognised consumer brand and driving marketing strategies in line with strategic objectives to drive customer engagement and demand

8+ years professional B2C marketing experience both online and offline

Prior experience in a managerial marketing role with outstanding people leadership capabilities and a proven track record of building and leading a marketing function capable of achieving ambitious team goals

Demonstrable knowledge of marketing best practises across multiple marketing channels to drive growth

Strong grasp of analytical tools and data to analyse performance and drive decisions

Experience working with Product and BD teams

Experience of managing marketing costs and determining budget allocations

Strong stakeholder management experience, coupled with a proven track record of managing multiple affiliate relationships

Deep understanding and experience in strategic communication and marketing, both digital and traditional

Experience working in a tech-based environment, using technology to improve and scale up processes

Experience that would be nice to have (but we’ll trade off if everything else fits)

Financial services industry experience, ideally within a consumer credit environment

Experience using Salesforce

Multi-national marketing experience

Experience leading multi-territory teams across different time zones
