FP&A Manager (Publishing) at Kobalt

We are hiring a Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) in New York to support Kobalt’s publishing business. This position will be part of the global Finance team and report in to the VP, FP&A. The Manager will help to drive the business through regular forecasting and analysis with a focus on revenue – creating and developing financial models, providing insight into revenue performance, and carrying out ad-hoc analyses for the senior group and business unit management.

Kobalt have built the technology infrastructure to enable better reporting and for artists to maintain ownership and control over how their work is distributed, tracked, collected, and monetized.  This global technology platform can track and collect royalties for the billions of micro-payments per song in digital music today.

  • Drive continuous improvement in modelling and forecasting, including building/refining model logic and assumptions while operating across multiple systems
  • Carry out analyses to inform, update and refine forecasting assumptions and logic, and extract insight on business performance
  • Develop new KPI reporting and automate reporting using tools such as Domo (Business Intelligence), Adaptive, etc.
  • Anticipate and translate the needs of the business into concrete solutions, analyses and insight, including responding to ad-hoc requests for financial information/analysis and supporting strategic and operational decision making as appropriate
  • Ensure forecasts (covering P&L, cashflow and KPIs) are updated on time, communicating as appropriate with stakeholders in the business and in Finance
  • Ensure delivery of regular weekly/monthly/quarterly management reporting and commentary
  • Improve and integrate data across multiple systems and departments to increase reliability, accuracy, usefulness, and production efficiency
  • Update forecasts for business unit specific costs



Essential Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ experience working in an FP&A/budgeting and forecasting role
  • Previous experience working in the music, entertainment, media and/or a creative industry is preferred
  • Advanced Excel/financial modelling skills with extensive experience building models from scratch
  • Strong experience overseeing revenue forecasting
  • Ability to drive best practices in modelling and working with large amounts of data
  • High level of numerical aptitude, commercially aware and capable of dealing effectively with complexity
  • Excellent analytical skills and approach
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Comfortable defining specific deliverables and proposing solutions


  • Formal training in financial modelling
  • Experience querying and manipulating large volume complex datasets/databases
  • Competent SQL skills
  • Experience working with Budgeting Software such as Adaptive or Hyperion
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g. Domo, Tableau, Looker)
