Head of Translation & Intepreting Systems at The Hut Group

THG is powered by a collection of modern IT infrastructure including a language translation and interpretation capability provided by the THG Language Connect business unit. The team is looking to recruit a Head of Translation and Interpretation Systems to design, develop and maintain the language infrastructure. The successful candidate will report into the Director of Engineering and will be a subject matter expert in building systems using off-the-shelf components and in-house development.

The candidate will:

  • Oversee and manage THG Language Connect’s Front and Back-end systems including cloud and on-premise systems, tools and scripting development for localisation services.
  • Manage a small team of software engineers to ensure technology development and implementation is in accordance with project plans and company needs.
  • Deliver a future-proof scalable and robust architecture to support the needs of the translation and interpreting business
  • Leverage the THG Cloud Computing technology stack to host the solution to company standards
  • Ensure we are utilising best of breed technology to achieve this.
  • Ideally the candidate will be from a language and localisation background including:
    • Understanding CAT tools, TMSs, connectors, APIs and workflows used to get from source texts to translations
    • expected to be familiar with the current trends and cutting-edge technology solutions within the industry, such as how AI, ML, and NML play a part in localization processes.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and motivate a team of globally spread engineers supporting sales, production, finance, production, quality and supply chain/translation vendors.
  • Direct activities for specifying requirements, designing, developing, testing, documenting, supporting and managing all company technical products, hosting and office/IT environments.
  • Responsible for planning, organization and operation of current and planned software, as well as strategy and roadmap planning for future products and environments.
  • Manage technology and hosting vendor relationships.
  • Working with the Infosec team to ensure our Language IT stack is compliant

Qualifications:

  • Experience of Language Systems including Translation Management, Interpretation Management, Localisation and Machine Translation is preferable but not essential
  • Significant hands-on technical and software life-cycle experience
  • Experience software development managerial experience for development, support and QA functions with an AGILE flavour
  • At management level, be able to manage the IT stack including working with the team to tune and resolve operational issues
  • Excellent management, communication, and teamwork skills, with proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor a diverse group of distributed engineers and collaborate effectively with other functions within the company.
  • Experience working remotely with teams
  • Ability to pick up a problem and own it to completion
  • Ability to develop product functional and architecture specifications into an organized and realistic project development plan.
  • Experience with fast-paced, start-up development environments.
